Multi Tray has introduced the NXT Series, a new generation of plant transport trays. According to Daan Swart of Multi Tray, the innovation responds to practical challenges in the market. "While the market is strongly focused on reusable systems – which in practice often turn out to be further away than expected – we have delivered a concrete innovation within transport trays," he says.

NXT stands for Next Level Transport Tray. The trays are made from RPET, a recycled PET material. Thanks to the smoother material properties, Multi Tray has been able to significantly reduce the stacking height of the trays. As a result, the number of trays per pallet has increased from around 2,400 to approximately 6,000. This leads to fewer pallets, reduced storage requirements, and a higher load per truck.
Swart points to the NXT236 as an example. "A total of 4,800 trays fit on one Euro pallet position. Unlike block pallets, 33 of these pallet positions fit in a truck. That results in 158,400 trays per truck," he explains. "Compared with the regular 2,400 trays per block pallet – about 62,400 trays per truck – that is 2.5 times as many."
The trays are available in existing standard sizes and can therefore be used directly within current logistics processes. "No adjustments are needed anywhere in the chain," Swart says. "The gains are purely in transport and storage, which translates into lower costs."
"Within the current Normpack agreements, existing standards are still being maintained, while practice calls for solutions that evolve with logistics efficiency and circularity," he continues. "The NXT tray shows that innovation and supply chain improvement can go hand in hand. At the same time, RPET fits well within Europe's highly developed recycling systems. It is hoped that RPET will be seriously considered in the future within the Normpack framework and at auctions as a fully fledged alternative."

Multi Tray is fully committed to using 100% recycled PET plastics sourced from residual streams in the food industry. Coloured trays that are no longer suitable for high-quality food applications are reprocessed into NXT trays. In this way, circularity is given practical form within the ornamental horticulture supply chain.
"For us, the story is not only about sustainability, but above all about efficiency and direct cost savings. CO₂ reduction is a logical result of that," the company states.
The NXT Series is being presented by Multi Tray at IPM Essen, at stand 4C37.
