Creating sustainable protection against diseases and pests in greenhouses

Rose nursery Marjoland in Waddinxveen, the Netherlands, has recently invested in three Meto UV-C robots. These machines, manufactured by Berg Hortimotive, have been specially developed to combat diseases and pests that can harm crops, including ornamental crops. The rose nursery purchased Meto UV-C robots alongside a Meto Trans. How exactly do these machines work?

UV-C light instead of chemical crop protection
In the majority of cases, diseases and pests are managed using chemical or biological crop protection products, but Meto UV-C robots use UV-C light instead. This has a number of advantages – it is more sustainable and safer for people working in the greenhouse too. In addition, your products are not sprayed with crop protection products. Research indicates that bacteria and fungi can be managed just as effectively with UV-C light as with crop protection products, while you benefit from a healthier crop and contribute to sustainability at the same time.

Robot machines with autonomous control
With Meto UV-C robots, you are always assured of reliable crop protection, according to Steenks. Thanks to the Meto Trans, which is often combined with a spraying robot, the machine travels fully independently along all paths within the greenhouse to give your crop UV-C light. This means that your machine can even work at night, without you having to worry about it. Meto UV-C robots can be customised, allowing them to function perfectly within any greenhouse environment.
