Bhopal is set to acquire a new and fragrant identity as "Bhopal Rose City," with preparations underway to host the prestigious World Rose Convention in 2028. The announcement was made by Madhya Pradesh's Minister for Horticulture and Food Processing, Shri Narayan Singh Kushwah, during the closing ceremony of the 45th All India Rose Exhibition held in the state capital.
The two-day exhibition concluded on Sunday, January 11, 2026, marking an important moment in Bhopal's efforts to emerge as an international centre for rose cultivation, research, and garden tourism. The event highlighted the growing focus on horticulture revealed the city's readiness to take on a global role in this field.
The World Rose Convention 2028 is expected to bring together rose experts, researchers, growers, and horticulture professionals from nearly 40 countries. The convention will feature international rose exhibitions, technical workshops on rose farming, discussions on gardening innovations, and knowledge-sharing sessions focused on sustainable horticulture practices.
Minister Kushwah said the World Rose Society and the state's Horticulture Department will work together to give Bhopal a lasting identity as a Rose City. He noted that the initiative is designed not only to enhance the city's visual appeal but also to promote tourism, generate employment opportunities, and strengthen environmental awareness across the region.
