India: Udupi hosts flower show

The three-day district-level fruit and flower show, themed on the life and achievements of Padma Shri Saalumarada Thimmakka, will be held from Jan 26 to 28 at the horticulture dept's flower auction center (Raitha Seva Kendra) at Shivalli Model Horticulture Farm. The show is open to the public from 10am to 8pm daily. Organized jointly by the district administration, the ZP and the horticulture dept, the show will feature around 7,000 flowering plants across 26 varieties, including petunia, celosia, salvia, chrysanthemum, marigold, hibiscus and pansy.

DC Swaroopa T K said the event is dedicated to Thimmakka's inspiring life.District minister Laxmi Hebbalkar will inaugurate the show on Jan 26 at 8am, with Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna presiding.

The exhibition will also include model kitchen gardens, vegetable displays, micro-greens demonstrations and technical sessions.

On Jan 26, there will be a session on the control of areca nut leaf spot disease. The next day, a session on export opportunities for Udupi district's GI-tagged crops, including Udupi jasmine and Mattu Gulla (brinjal), will be held. On Jan 28, the session will be on the creation and maintenance of kitchen and terrace gardens.
