In the previous fiscal year (2024/25), the country earned horticulture export revenue of 564.89 million U.S. dollars, with flowers accounting 80% of the proceeds. Currently, the country's horticulture industry employs more than 200 thousands local people, mainly women and youth in rural settlements, significantly contributing to income generation and poverty reduction as well as knowledge and technology transfer.
The horticulture industry also helps in diversifying the country's economy by engaging local and foreign investors in the production and export of high-value flowers, fruits, herbs and vegetables away from traditional low-value crops.

As it is accompanied by government's incentive schemes of tax exemption (up to 10 years), duty-free importation of machinery and access to finance among others, the industry attracts local investors, and thereby enhancing its contribution to local economic gains.
EHPEA has been playing a central role in promoting socially and environmentally responsible horticulture practices in the country through various interventions, including ensuring implementation of the Code of Practices, capacity building, advocacy and community engagement, and advancing regulatory compliance. EHPEA is shining and highly acclaimed on the continent for its notable interventions in embedding sustainable social investment for youth, improving workplace safety, and protecting the environment in horticulture corridors.

In addition to their role in knowledge and technology transfer which has spillover effects on other agriculture sub-sectors, the EHPEA member farms have also been running environmentally and socially cautious operations, attaching great importance to issues of corporate social responsibility, whereby they have actively been engaged in impactful projects in education, health and power facilities as well as environmental initiatives.
