Honey as a tangible symbol of sustainable commitment

At FlorAmor, an ornamental plant nursery specialising in flowering houseplants and garden plants, most plants develop their colour and blooms after they leave the nursery and reach consumers' homes. On the nursery sites themselves, the daily view is therefore dominated by green growth rather than flowers. This observation led FlorAmor to a simple but meaningful initiative: the creation of flower borders along the nursery plots, adding colour while serving an important ecological function.

These flower borders attract beneficial insects and natural enemies, while also supporting local bee populations. The initiative soon drew the attention of local beekeepers, which resulted in a collaboration in which beehives were placed on the FlorAmor nurseries. The outcome is honey that is produced directly among the company's own plants.

The project aligns with another key step FlorAmor took in 2022, when it developed a sustainability charter. This charter translates the company's sustainability ambitions into concrete and transparent actions. The link with the flower borders and the bees followed naturally, and honey from the company's own sites proved to be a tangible way to share this commitment with customers and partners.

Each jar of FlorAmor honey features a QR code that links directly to the sustainability charter. In this way, a simple, authentic product invites people to learn more about the practices behind the scenes and FlorAmor's broader approach to sustainable ornamental plant production.

The honey is produced in collaboration with beekeeper Ronny De Vylder, who is responsible for managing the bee colonies and also provides guided tours and presentations on beekeeping. As a result, the project combines ecological benefits with an educational dimension.

Through this initiative, FlorAmor demonstrates that sustainability is not an abstract concept, but something that can be made visible, shared, and experienced in a very concrete way.
