Building a strong culture of safety requires more than written policies or annual training sessions. It depends on ongoing awareness, open conversation, and shared responsibility across the entire team. This interactive kickoff program introduces the new AmericanHort safety video series and offers a practical look at what it means to maintain a safe workplace in horticultural operations.
The session explores research-based frameworks for employee engagement and examines how both engagement and disengagement show up on the job. It also looks at ways to use generational diversity as a strength, helping supervisors and team leaders connect with employees across age groups in meaningful and effective ways. Topics covered include supervisor responsibilities, effective employee training, hazard recognition, and how to identify and learn from near misses.
Throughout the program, participants are invited to engage through polls and guided reflection moments. These interactive elements encourage attendees to think critically about their own operations and to learn from the experiences of others across the industry. The shared learning approach is designed to move beyond check-the-box training and support real conversations about how safety shows up in day-to-day work.
This kickoff session sets the foundation for a series of short, on-demand safety micro-trainings. Future content will feature insights from industry partners and leaders, along with resources designed to support practical first steps or next steps in building and sustaining a strong culture of safety.
