Turkey: Soilless tulip boom blossoms in Antalya, 50,000 flowers a year

Water-grown tulips produced through soilless farming methods in Antalya are seeing strong domestic demand, company officials said. Growers in Serik ship up to 500,000 flowers a year to major cities across Türkiye.

Produced in the Serik district's Belek Tourism Center, these water-grown tulips are shipped to many cities across the country, including major metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Izmir, and Ankara.

Flash Tarim and Aktif Fide began water-based tulip production about 19 years ago to bring tulips back to their homeland. Imported bulbs are placed upright in water containers and kept in cold storage for about a month. After rooting, the tulips are moved into greenhouses, where they continue growing in water-filled crates until harvest.

Anil Yolcular Irik, an agricultural engineer and operations manager at the company, said the firm has been producing tulips in water culture for 19 years. He noted that production is focused on special occasions and follows a limited seasonal cycle.
