Colombian flowers bloom on Capitol Hill ahead of Valentine’s Day

In the days leading up to Valentine's Day, the Embassy of Colombia in the United States, together with Flowers of Colombia, is bringing Colombian flowers to Capitol Hill, as Ambassador Daniel García-Peña delivers floral arrangements to the 535 Congressional offices as a symbol of the close and enduring partnership between Colombia and the United States.

Colombia remains the United States' leading supplier of fresh-cut flowers. During January and February 2025, approximately 720 million stems from Colombia supplied the U.S. market for Valentine's Day, meaning that 80% of the flowers that mark the season of love and friendship across the country originated in Colombia. This remarkable figure reflects a trade relationship built on trust, reliability, and shared purpose, cultivated over more than two centuries of bilateral ties.

"The Colombian floriculture industry stands as a model of export excellence and sustainability. The presentation of these bouquets to senators and representatives of the United States symbolizes how, through dignified work, sustainability, and the international recognition built over decades, the sector projects a strong image of Colombia and helps strengthen the bonds of cooperation and trust between both nations," said Augusto Solano, president of Asocolflores.

Beyond their beauty, Colombian flowers represent an industry that supports hundreds of thousands of families in Colombia and sustains jobs across the United States. Each stem delivered to Congress carries with it the work of thousands of Colombian growers and the strength of a trade partnership that continues to generate shared value on both sides.

"This gesture is both beautiful and meaningful," said Daniel García-Peña, Ambassador of Colombia to the United States. "Colombian flowers are part of everyday life in the United States, especially on Valentine's Day. They are also a living expression of a relationship that connects our economies, supports families in both countries, and continues to grow through cooperation and mutual respect."

Delivering flowers, from the Country of Beauty, to Congressional offices is more than a seasonal tradition. It is a reminder of how closely linked the two countries are through trade, agriculture, and people-to-people ties, and of Colombia's commitment to strengthening a partnership that delivers tangible benefits for both nations.

"This Valentine's season, Colombian flowers once again take their place at the heart of one of America's most cherished celebrations, reaffirming a relationship that, like the industry behind it, continues to flourish."
