Western flower thrips found in Ecuadorian roses imported to Kazakhstan

During phytosanitary inspection at the Sary-Arka International Airport, a quarantine pest was detected in a shipment of roses from Ecuador, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Kazinform.

Samples were taken from a batch of 50,695 cut roses. Laboratory analysis by the Karaganda branch of RGP "Phytosanitary Service" confirmed the presence of western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis) in part of the shipment.

An administrative case has been opened, and materials have been submitted to the court for further proceedings. The Ministry reminded importers to strictly comply with phytosanitary regulations when bringing quarantine-sensitive products into Kazakhstan.
