Georgia’s flower market: Prices increase, demand remains strong, says retailer

Flower prices on the Georgian market have increased significantly compared to last year, but demand, particularly for high-value bouquets, remains strong, according to the founder of flower shop Mimosa.

She said price growth is especially noticeable during holiday periods, averaging 30–50%, as wholesale flowers are already purchased at higher prices.

Despite rising prices and operating costs, the company continues to offer a wide range of bouquets aimed at consumers with different income levels. Owner Tamo Merlani said the approach is intended "so that no one is left without a gift during the holidays."

Mimosa was established two years ago as an online store and later expanded to include a physical flower shop. The company offers a broad assortment of bouquets made from high-quality flowers. Merlani explained that most of the flowers used are imported, citing the need to ensure higher quality as the main reason.

During the interview, Merlani outlined several challenges facing flower retailers in Georgia, including rising wholesale prices. She noted that roses remain the most popular flowers in the country. At the same time, the shop seeks to diversify its offerings, including bouquets that combine flowers with toys, balloons and other items to make them more distinctive.

According to data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia, in 2025 the country imported a total of 2,662 tonnes of flowers and buds worth USD 18.5 million. This represents an increase of 62% in value and 40% in volume compared to the previous year. For comparison, between January and December 2024, Georgia imported 1,901 tonnes of flowers and buds valued at USD 11.4 million.

Last year, Georgia sourced the largest share of its flower imports from Ecuador. Imports from Ecuador totalled 881 tonnes, valued at USD 7.5 million.
