Kazakhstan cut its imports of cut flowers and buds by 11.2% in 2025, according to data from the Bureau of National Statistics. Over January–December, the country imported around 11,000 tonnes of flowers, valued at USD 77.7 million, down 17% year-on-year.
Ecuador remained the largest supplier, delivering 4,600 tonnes, although shipments fell by 29% compared with 2024. As a result, Ecuador's share of Kazakhstan's flower imports decreased from 54.3% to 44%.
China ranked second with 2,700 tonnes, overtaking the Netherlands in volume terms. China's market share rose sharply from 8% to 21.5%. The increase was driven by lower prices: despite a 2.4-fold rise in shipment volumes, the total value of Chinese imports halved.
Other key suppliers included the Netherlands (1,700 tonnes), Colombia (778 tonnes) and Kenya (739 tonnes).
Roses remained the most imported flower, totaling 139.8 million stems, although volumes declined by 12.2% year-on-year. Ecuador accounted for the largest share of rose shipments. In value terms, rose imports reached USD 49 million, the highest among all flower types. Chrysanthemum imports amounted to 21 million stems, down 14.8%, with the Netherlands as the main supplier. Imports of other flower varieties also decreased.
