In the Netherlands, growers Heimen Quik and Kees Satter harvested the first chrysanthemums from their new greenhouse less than a year after construction of the project began. The site was prepared on 1 January of the previous year, the first foundation pole was installed on 3 April, and the first cuttings were planted on 3 November. The first harvest followed in week 2 of the next year.

The new greenhouse represents a significant expansion for the company. "We previously had around 10 hectares and have now grown to approximately 16 hectares," says Quik. The existing facilities include 3.5 hectares of chrysanthemums and 4.5 hectares of phalaenopsis. In addition, 1 hectare of lisianthus is grown during the summer in an older greenhouse. The new greenhouse adds another 6 hectares of chrysanthemum production, allowing the company to produce chrysanthemums and phalaenopsis year-round.

The new greenhouse has been built next to the existing location, which offers several advantages. As a result, no new gas or electricity connections were required and operations can be coordinated more efficiently. Technically, the greenhouse is fully equipped. "The team from Stolze said there was nothing left to tick off – everything is included," Quik says with a smile. The greenhouse is fitted with insect netting, humidification and dehumidification systems, and four-channel lighting.

Construction also progressed smoothly due to favourable weather conditions during the summer. "We had a very good summer, which meant we were able to build in dry conditions. That is quite unique and helped the project run smoothly." At the same time, Quik emphasises that a project of this scale requires close attention. "We are quite precise and like to keep a close eye on everything."

As part of the expansion, a new warehouse has also been built to support the company's export activities. "It originally started somewhat spontaneously, but we now also operate an export business. It used to take place on a smaller scale from the old site, but it has gradually grown," Quik explains.

The company had planned a customer day on 20 March and an open day on 21 March, but both events have been postponed due to family circumstances. New dates will be announced at a later stage.
