Twenty years after the first large-scale installations of harmonic insect netting, a new phase is emerging in greenhouse horticulture. SchermNed, which was among the first installers of these systems at Holland Plant and FortaPlant back in 2005, is now once again at the forefront, says Jack van der Voort. This time focusing on replacement. "Thanks to years of hands-on experience, the company knows exactly when insect netting reaches the end of its lifecycle."
"Around 2005, the landscape for growers changed significantly," Jack explains. "Stricter regulations on chemical crop protection made physically insect-proof greenhouses essential. Insect netting became a structural solution."
Today, that first generation of systems has endured decades of use. Wear and contamination in the folds can turn greenhouse vents into vulnerable points once again. According to SchermNed, replacement is therefore not an exception, but a logical next step in the lifecycle of insect netting.
During replacement, SchermNed carefully re-measures all vents and seams. "Even small measurement differences can lead to tension and wear over time. That's why quality starts with precise sizing."
The new harmonic netting is installed with the highest level of accuracy, after which every connection is thoroughly checked. SchermNed can supply the insect netting with supervision of installation, or handle the entire project with its own installation team. In both cases, an on-site supervisor ensures quality and progress throughout the project.
With this approach, SchermNed reinforces its position as a specialist in insect netting. "We address maintenance and replacement before it becomes a problem. That's what we've been doing since 1990. Because we care."
