Biota Nutri joins STORL to support circular agriculture

Biota Nutri has joined STORL, the Dutch foundation responsible for organizing the collection and sustainable processing of agricultural packaging and product residues.

STORL plays a central role in the Netherlands' approach to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), ensuring that materials such as fertilizer and crop protection packaging are properly collected and processed after use. The system supports growers while placing shared responsibility on producers and importers to manage the full lifecycle of their products.

For Biota Nutri, participation in STORL reflects a broader commitment to sustainability that extends beyond product performance.

"As the industry moves toward more circular models, responsibility doesn't end at the point of sale," said Peter Klein, Biota's CTO. "By joining STORL, we are actively contributing to a system that ensures our products are managed responsibly throughout their full lifecycle."

The initiative aligns closely with Biota's focus on developing plant-based nutrition solutions© Biota Nutri BV that reduce environmental impact while maintaining agronomic performance. This includes technologies such as its Onsite Nitrogen Production (ONP) system, which enables growers to produce nitrogen locally, reducing transport, emissions, and dependency on conventional supply chains.

With increasing regulatory focus across Europe on waste management and producer responsibility, participation in systems such as STORL is becoming an important step for companies operating in the agricultural sector.

"Growers and suppliers alike are under increasing pressure to demonstrate not only efficiency, but accountability," Peter Klein added. "Being part of STORL ensures we are aligned with both current requirements and the direction the industry is heading."

Through its involvement, Biota Nutri aims to support the transition toward more sustainable and circular agricultural practices, while continuing to provide practical solutions for modern growers.
