Bulbs are hard at work beneath the surface of Karla Etten's nursery and cut flower farm. Soon, Etten's Eden, located in The Plains, will be adorned with daisies, wisteria, climbing roses, and many more flowers and plants. There will also be water lilies, lotus, koi ponds and waterfalls for people to enjoy, and the occasional acoustic guitarist filling the air with chords.
"I see good buds here on my lilac," Etten said as she searched the farm for signs of spring. Nothing was on the land when Etten bought the property in 2020. By 2023, she had built a greenhouse and started her business, which includes custom floral arrangements, plant rentals for events, floral classes and garden workshops. The farm, which includes benches and a patio space for visitors, has also been used for small baby showers, bridal showers, community meetings and garden clubs.
The flower farm will also soon be home to Etten, who is building a house on the property, along with a production cottage. Construction will be completed in early summer.
The cottage will be used as a workshop for floral arranging and a place where Etten can hold classes. Once the surrounding area is landscaped, she said, she would also welcome sound baths, yoga and other activities to the space.
