Isabelle Henin Spindler and Rita Manjik of Red Lands Roses. They are exporting to China for about 5 years now and it is the fourth time that they are exhibiting at the Hortiflor expo in China. They feel that the domestic production is increasing and improving, but not much spray are being grown. Therefore, spray  as well as the odd colors and garden style roses are the main types of this Kenyan rose grower that go to China. Isabelle see a lot of potential for the future, especially if there will be direct flights from Kenya to China.

Manuel Linke and Lun Li presenting the potfiller TM 1010F, one of the three machines they are presenting at the exhibition. Last year, they opened their own sales office with technical support in Nanjing . According to Manuel, for the Chinese growers, it is now time to think about automatic solutions. "In several areas of the country, lobar costs are rising, so automatic processes becomes more interesting. The TM 1010F is interesting for the Chinese grower as many parts that are now being done manually are automated. It prepares the pots so that the young plants can be put in manually. The only manual labor is putting in the young plants. It can processes 4,000 pots per hour."

Sander Smeding of Anthura promoting the smaller sized anthurium and phalaenopsis. "For gifts, often a large plant with the typical colors - like a big red anthurium- are given. Now, the Chinese consumer needs to learn to buy plants for own use and then, we see a shift in demand towards the smaller products and in different colors. Also for the phalaenopsis, we try to introduce a 2 to 3 branched plant. Currently, the phalaenopsis market consists of cheaper 1- stemmed products. Arrangements are then made with more products."

Jorge Ortega and Camila Silva of Matina Flowers. According to Jorge, the flower industry is not reflecting how the industry is growing. "We thought we would supply nearly a third of our production to this country, but so far it is not the case." In Jorge's opinion this might have several reason; language barriers. not enough knowledge of handling the flowers and the domestic production that is increasing and improving. Even though, it remains a market with a lot of potential and he therefore keeps investing in it.
