Reducing plant losses in retail sector by 10%

The "Aqua Pad in tray" is a unique solution for reducing plant losses in the retail sector by 10% as well as prolonging the life of the plant by up to 30%. To meet growing demands from the market for Aqua Pads, Chrysal International, Flier Systems and Modiform have joined forces in developing a complete application solution. The "Aqua Pad in tray" will be launched at the IPM in Essen, January 27th – 30th January.

The Aqua Pad is a wood fibre mat that should be placed under the grower's pot. Once the Aqua Pad has been hydrated, it forms a water reservoir which absorbs up to 20 times its own weight which is released as required by the plant. This gives plants a longer shelf life. To supply the Aqua Pad in tray, Flier Systems developed the Aqua Pad Dispenser. This machine places the pads in trays or pots and ensures that the correct amount of water is applied. Additionally, and in consultation with nurseries, Modiform wants to investigate the possibility of supplying customized trays ready-filled with Aqua Pads. John Ammerlaan of Leo Ammerlaan Nursery (user of the Aqua Pad Dispenser): "The Aqua Pad is a good solution both for us and consumers."

Longer life span and an increase in plant value

With the Aqua Pad in tray, Chrysal International, Flier Systems and Modiform have a unique, easy to implement formula for reducing plant waste in the retail sector by 10%. The plants also remain beautiful and fresh on the shelf, prolonging the life span by 30%. Moreover, it also provides increased flexibility for logistics and planning thanks to the extra water reservoir.

The Chrysal Aqua Pad also has advantages for the consumer, as the plant requires watering less frequently. This is echoed by Rudi Standaert of SO Natural, largescale orchid producer and advocate of the Aqua Pad: "SO Natural uses the Aqua Pad, because it benefits the life span of plants for consumers and the plants last longer on the shelf." Research proves that the consumer is aware of the advantages of the Aqua Pad and that it increases his plant's value.
