"The Vikings are coming"

Increasing demand for Viking Roses

Rosa Eskelund, owner of Roses Forever recognizes a large demand for Viking roses. "Scandinavian retailers are even asking for these roses. Lately, a large Norwegian flower chain, Mester Grøn started an agreement with a Kenyan grower, who will grow these roses exclusively for them." says the Danish breeder.

One of the new long life Viking roses: Best Rosa.

The roses are bred by Rosa Eskelund and are cut flowers with the appearance of a garden rose. "The roses are long lasting and some have a spectacular green centre and are even scented" she says.

Not only in Scandinavia, but all over the world she recognizes a demand. At the Nordic Flower Show, that took place last week, some growers from Africa and South America showed their interest in the flowers. "The Viking roses are meant for exclusive growers", Rosa says.

After breeding and selecting, all Viking roses are tested in open air before they enter the test greenhouse in Holland. From Holland bud woods or cuttings are send out to growers worldwide for testing or production. At the moment, the roses are grown and tested in The Netherlands, Kenya, Ethiopia, Colombia and Ecuador.
