US (IN): Behind the glass greenhouse of The Tulip Company
"That’s a lot of tulips, plus a lot of glass frames. Thousands and thousands of glass frames,” said Welsh. Leading to a lot of work around the green house. “Its very labor intensive. During our tulip season which is January through May we run 7 days a week. For the most part tulips have to be pulled every couple hours through the tulip season,” explained Welsh.
But it takes a special place to house these long stemmed spring favorites. A gigantic place to host the colorful bulb flower. “This is a glass greenhouse, it was built 65 years ago. To this day it’s one of the largest freestanding greenhouses in the nation. It is 415 feet to 65 feet wide,” expressed Welsh.
With some history to the building it still keeps the vintage tools with a blooming fresh fix up, putting some unique twist to the tulip company’s ability to grow top-notch tulips.
