UK: Plants named after Royal baby Princess Charlotte

According to www.worcesternews.co.uk a plant with yellow flowers named after the Royal baby, Princess Charlotte. This has been unveiled at the Malvern Spring Festival that takes place from Thursday May 7 until Sunday May 10. RHS Malvern Spring Festival is celebrating the unveiling of Auricula ‘Princess Charlotte’, a new cultivar bred by Drointon Nurseries. The new plant was selected ahead of the princess’ arrival for its buttermilk yellow flowers, which would be fitting for both a prince or princess. The multi award-winning nursery has nurtured the plant for many months in preparation for its launch at RHS Malvern.

Also Wyevale Garden Centres is launching a double flowering clematis named after Princess Charlotte this week (www.telegraph.co.uk). With only 5,000 Clematis Charlotte plants available, it is expected the flower will sell out within the fortnight, following the popularity of Clematis George, released after the birth of the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2013. David Mitchell Plant Buyer at WGC said, “In 2013 the Clematis George was our fastest selling clematis of the year with many of our customers asking if we would honour the newest royal in the same way. We are proud to have sourced a one-of-a-kind double flowering clematis to honour Princess Charlotte.”
