KFC to hold a “Kenya Floriculture Industry-Enhancing Market Access Sustainably” seminar

The Kenya Flower Council will hold a seminar on “Kenya Floriculture Industry-Enhancing Market Access Sustainably” on June 4, 2015 during the International Flower Trade Expo (IFTEX at the Visa Oshwal Centre Auditorium from 11 a.m. The participants will share the knowledge and experience on market access, emerging markets, the national traceability system, the national mechanism for compliance and the Economic Partnership Agreement between the East African Community (EAC) and the European Union (EU).

The floriculture industry is an important sector of the Kenyan economy. In 2014 it contributed 1.52% to the national GDP raking in over KES 54.6 billion in foreign exchange from a volume of about 136,000 tons exported. The sector employs over 90,000 people directly and over 500,000 indirectly. The sector’s workforce comprises 60% women, supporting over 2.5 million livelihoods.
