US (NH): Pleasant View Gardens selects David Martin as Territory Sales Manager

Pleasant View Gardens, one the country’s top-performing wholesale growers of annuals, perennials, and herbs – most notably Proven Winners® plants – is proud to announce its most recent cultivation effort: The selection of David Martin as territory sales manager for the Northeast.

David Martin

With nearly a quarter century of horticultural and agricultural sales experience under his belt, Martin is the perfect hybrid to further strengthen Pleasant View’s position in the Northeast. His new responsibilities include account management, new product launches, territory management and expansion, and production planning, as well as industry relations, operations, and personnel management.

“We’re excited to have David on board with us. Someone with his kind of sales savvy and growing experience is rare. But more importantly, David shares the kind of passion and customer-centric attitude that’s been instrumental in us continuing to grow our business,” nods Pleasant View’s national sales manager, Andy Huntington.

Starting his career in horticulture as a sales representative for Vaughan’s Seed (Novartis), Martin successfully managed 125 wholesale and retail greenhouse, nursery and garden center accounts in the Northeast – helping to achieve incredible sales growth of more than 700% in just six years. He was also responsible for selling and promoting young plants, nursery stock, and hard goods from a network of 300 horticultural companies.

But more than just a great salesman, Martin is also no stranger to the dirt – running his family farm, greenhouse operation, garden center and farm market for over four years. It was there he learned the full spectrum of what it takes to run a successful operation, from wholesale production and sales of perennials to personnel management, greenhouse production planning, inventory, pricing, and even the marketing of a retail operation.

Following his time at Red Brick Farm, Martin became a sales representative for Syngenta, where he was responsible for field-based B2B promotions and selling of horticultural products to nursery and greenhouse operations. During his time, Martin focused in particular on young plants and seeds, in addition to maintaining a strong commitment to proprietary genetics.

“That was another characteristic that made David such a natural fit for us here at Pleasant View. He has a tremendous understanding of what makes for a high-performing plant. Something we are quite aware of, as evidenced by our focus on the genetics behind our Proven Winners® and Proven Selections® plants,” finishes Huntington.

During his Syngenta days, Martin managed over 125 accounts in the Northeast, while also helping to expand Syngenta’s international market with direct sales to over 100 accounts in eastern Canada. Working with supply chain managers, breeders, industry representatives, and co-workers, Martin was able to develop, maintain and grow business by 640% through sales and detailed territory planning.

Just prior to joining Pleasant View Gardens, Martin was the business development representative at Rural Community Insurance Services (RCIS), where he sold federal multi-peril crop insurance and private products crop insurance to leading agents. Martin was also instrumental in the marketing and managing of new products, along with key account growth and development.
