Netherlands: Less consumers buy plants at garden centers

Less consumers are buying their plants at garden centers. According to Jan Boomkamp, owner of a garden center in the Netherlands, people are increasingly hiring landscapers to design their gardens. Therefore, there is no need for them to buy plants at a garden center.

For this reason, Boomkamp is closing his garden center after 38 years. However, he continues with his landscaping firm and tree nursery. He cultivates trees and bedding plants on a 180ha sized open field, 4ha container field, and in a 4ha greenhouse.
