India: Young progressive farmer makes strides in floriculture

At a time when youths of Punjab have mostly one dream of going abroad in search of greener pastures, Jagwinder Singh, a young farmer from Jamser Khas village decided to stay in his village and cultivate his ancestral land to make a better future.

Jagwinder’s family has been into conventional farming like cultivating potato, wheat and paddy etc for a long time.

As Jagwinder wanted to do something different while staying in his village, he approached the horticulture department, Jalandhar, that showed him the way towards floriculture and its marketing locally and at the national level. He adopted floriculture on the 1.5 acres of his ancestral land a few years ago, slowly extending the area under floriculture to 12 acres.
