About Wooning Orchids
Wooning Orchids B.V. is a modern orchid greenhouse of 9 hectares that is located in Bleiswijk, the Netherlands. Two crops are grown in this greenhouse: the Dendronium Nobilé and Phaelenopsis in the quality classes Exclusive and Essential. Wooning Orchids produces annually 4.5-5 million plants, of which the largest part is exported to Western Europe. As an MPS – certified company, much attention is paid to the business environment, people and society.
Challenge
Manodj Mohabier, Process manager: “In the past, we used weekly lists that were manually entered by 90 employees (permanent & temporary). In retrospect, these hours are difficult to control as an employer. Besides, it was likely that we were making unnecessarily high labor costs. In addition, we wanted to increase our efficiency in which we operate according to standards, such as productivity and budget. We chose Nomad because we could combine the reliability of registration and cost efficiency into one system. The wireless input keys, which register and store all cultivation activities, also outside of the range, were a deciding factor.“
Solution & results
“It took some time to properly customize the system and make it suitable for our company. Now that the system meets our requirements, we have direct insight into the working hours, attendances and payroll administration. This prevents many debates within the organization: the results speak for themselves. At the end of the week we print out the payroll list, which we compare to the financial records of the agency. Nomad definitely has reduced our labor costs. For example, the product manager runs daily overviews that indicate precisely how much is deviated from the targets. If it appears that the goal is not achieved then the process is reviewed and modified. Moreover, the system also gives employees instant feedback on their own productivity: this strengthens their sense of pride.”
