Real IPM UK: Farmer-owned business to access range of African biopesticides

Pests and diseases are becoming resistant to many chemical pesticides. Retailers tell farmers not to use so many chemical pesticides. With fewer choices in chemicals used, the faster resistance is developing. Farmers are between a rock and a hard place. Biological control options available are limited in number and very expensive. It is not in the interests of agrochemical companies to make affordable biopesticides because they will reduce the income they earn from their chemical pesticides.



Soon: A new green revolution is about to begin
UK farmers have initiated a game changing business: Real IPM UK Ltd. These founding farmers have formed Real IPM UK Ltd to enable production, registration and distribution of biological controls that have already made huge reductions in the use of chemical pesticides in Africa. Through collaboration with Real IPM Kenya Ltd, a biological control company, the new business of REAL IPM UK Ltd will enable farmers anywhere in the world to have access to affordable biopesticides. Control of pests and diseases less reliant on chemicals, in a cost effective programme, is soon to be possible in a wide range of crops.

Method: farmer-focused and farmer-Owned
It is not just the Real IPM products that are innovative. The business philosophy and structure is different too: farmer-owned. Investors in Real IPM UK must be farmers or trusts and foundations with environmentally sensitive farming as a major platform – not agrochemical companies or venture capitalists.
