And the winner is....

Proflora's Outstanding Varieties Competition winners

Many growers and breeders participated in the Outstanding Varieties Competition at the Proflora last week. National and international cut flowers experts were members of the jury and scored the different varieties. The competition was divided into two categories: the flower quality competition for growers and the flower quality competition for breeders. On top of these prices, one company was awarded as Grand Champion and one company received an Honourable Mention.

  • Grand Champion

Stef Veenhof of Flores La Serena. Könst was awarded as Grand Champion with their Konst Record alstroemeria variety.

  • Honourable Mention

Stella Menses Montes, Elsa Yolanda Dominguez Gomez and Carolina Canchon of Flores Tiba. They received an Honourable Mention.

The other winners of the quality competition for growers are:
  • Spray and disbud chrysanthemum

Sergio Arango of Capiro. Capiro won the first prize for the category spray chrysanthemum, called Amethyst and disbud chrysanthemum called Cavallini. Capiro also won second and third place in the category spray chrysanthemums for their varieties called Olive (second) and Baltica Cream (third). The second and third place in the category for disbud chrysanthemum went to Flores De La Vega for their varieties called Anastasia Special (second place) and Yellow Fuego (third place).

  • Garden rose

Nancy Montealegre, Sandy Saenz, Jose Azout and Maria Paula Cordoba of Alexandra farms. They won the first prize in the category garden roses with their variety called Mayra's Rose. They also took the second place with their variety called Ashley. The third place went to Flores Funza with their variety called Mayra's Green.

  • Standard rose

Jorge Ortega of Matina Flowers. They won the first prize in the category standard roses for their variety called Mother of Pearl. The second and third place went to Flores Tiba for their varieties called Pink Floyd (second) and Moody Blues (third).

  • Spray rose

Stella Menses Montes, Elsa Yolanda Dominguez Gomez and Carolina Canchon of Flores Tiba. Next to the Honourable Mention, they also won first, second and third prize in the category producer of spray roses for their varieties called Kelly (first), Rubicaon (second) and Ilse (third).

  • Alstroemeria and standard carnation

Paol Aranguren of Flores Funza. They won first, second and third prize in the category alstroemeria and standard carnation. In the category of alstroemerias, they won prizes for their varieties called Himalaya (first), Dirty Dancing (Second) and Voyager (third). In the category of standard carnations they won prizes for their varieties called Nathalia (first), Brisa (second) and Alcazar (third).

  • Spray carnation

The team of La Gaitana Farms. Their variety called Ludona won first prize in the category of spray carnations. Second and third prize went to Turflor for their varieties called Hamada (second) and Rohelle (third).

  • Other Species

Pablo Hernandez of FlorAndina. They won first prize for their hydrangea variety, called Hortensia Jumbo Blanca in the category of other species. Second place went to Los Aromas Farms for they hydrangea variety called Blue 7" and to Colibri Flowers for their Dianthus called Green Ball. Third place went to Phytotec for their sunflower called Vincent.

The other winners of the quality competition for breeders are:

  • Spray carnation

Luis Mariano Botero. Breier won first prize for their spray carnation called Mimo. The second and third place went to SB Talee for their varieties called Confite (second) and Vespa (third).

  • Standard rose

Oscar Peters of De Ruiter Colombia Roses. They won first prize in the category standard roses for their variety called C08-0710-004, which has been given the name Yello King. The second place went to Schreurs for their variety called Kahala. The third place went to Latin Selection for their variety called Adolonia.

  • Alstroemeria

Stef Veenhof of Flores La Serena. Next to their Grand Champion award, they also won first prize for the Konst Record alstroemeria variety. Second place went to Jardines de Los Andes, for their JA 5322 variety. Third place went to HilverdaKooij for their variety called Alstroemeria.

  • Spray chrysanthemum

Bas Pellemnaars and Ivan Dario Perez of Dümmen Orange. They won first prize in the category spay chrysanthemums for their variety called Rihanna. Second and third place went to Danziger for their varieties called Code 8193 (Second) and Can Can (third).

  • Spray carnation

Olga Mejia of GeoFlora. GeoFlora produces SB Talee carnations. SB Talee won first prize in the category breeding of spray carnations for their variety called Dante. They also won second prize for their variety alled Granate. Third place went to Propagar Plantas for their variety called Ikebana.

  • Other species

The model of Danziger, Ori and Claudia Coronado of Danziger. Danziger won first prize in breeding of the Cosmic Gypsophila in the category other species. Second place went to Ball Colombia for their Brassica Ornamental called Finged white. Danziger also took third place for their Scabiosa Blackberry Scoop.
