50th annual show:

US (MI): 300 orchids on display at Saginaw Valley Orchid Society's show and sale

The Saginaw Valley Orchid Society celebrated its 50th annual Orchid Show and Sale this weekend with more than 300 orchids on display.

The show took place on Saturday, Nov. 28, and Sunday, Nov. 29, with judging of the displays earlier Saturday morning. A total of 18 exhibits were shown along with vendors selling orchids and orchid-related items.

"The purpose of the show is to share orchids with the general public," Saginaw Valley Orchid Society President and Show Chairman Tim Hueston said.

The Saginaw Valley Orchid Society formed 53 years ago, with a show for the past 50 years. This year the show took place at a new location, at the Kochville Veterans Hall at 3265 Kochville Road. Prior shows took place in Midland.

"Another reason for the show is to get people interested," Hueston said.

Throughout both days, free classes to the public include speakers that gave demonstrations. For further information, visit the Saginaw Valley Orchid Society website.
