US (NY): General’s Garden Center and Plant Market closing after 40 years

After a long and successful career in the horticulture industry, Deborah Sweeton, owner of Techni-Growers Greenhouses and Generals Garden Center and Plant Market, has decided to close the greenhouse doors and move on to other adventures.

Techni-Growers Greenhouses Inc. has been a significant thread in the fabric of the Town of Warwick since 1975.

Dr. Paul King, his partner and his daughter Deborah started the company in the hamlet of Amity as a wholesale greenhouse supplying garden centers in the tri-state area.

After moving the operation to Sanfordville Road, the company expanded to include a retail nursery, The General’s Garden.

Sweeton and her husband, Michael, took over management when King went to work for a major peat moss company in the mid 80’s.
