Rosa Eskelund, Roses Forever:

Danish mini roses to conquer China

The Danish mini rose is gaining ground in the Chinese market. "IPM Essen was a large success. It was very international and there were many, more than ever, growers worldwide who asked for license to grow one or more of our rose lines. This year, we had a lot of Chinese visitors who were highly interested in the mini roses," says Rosa Eskelund of Roses Forever, breeder of not only these mini roses, but also the cut Viking Roses®, Edible Roses™, the Plant`n`Relax® garden roses and the Sweet Home Roses® (a kind of garden rose). These two latter ones, also attracted a lot of attention at the show and the Sweet Home Roses® are now even sold out until 2018.

Roses Forever has two mini rose lines; the Infinity® and the Roses Forever®. At the IPM Essen, both lines caught the eye of many visitors and in particular those of the Chinese. "Many Chinese companies are interested in our mini roses. We are now sorting out the possibilities of growing these roses in China. Therefore, in two weeks we are going over there to look at the greenhouses and sign agreements," says Rosa.

Garden rose lines
The garden rose lines, Plant'n'relax® and Sweet Home Roses®, also attracted attention at the IPM Essen. According to Rosa, the Sweet home roses easily fit into the growers cultivation programme. "It is a perfect plant for growers who need something to fill up after another crop as the growing time of these plants is very short; 5-6 weeks, when forced in a greenhouse," says Rosa. Sweet home roses are grown in the open fields, like a garden rose. Afterwards, it is ready to be forced in all kinds of greenhouse, even the ones with less technology. "We not only make licence agreements for growing in the fields for the Sweet Home Roses® but we also find the greenhouse growers to finish the product. So, it is not strange that the Sweet Home Roses are sold out until 2018."

Valentine's present
Mini Roses also seem to be a good Valentine's Day present. "Last week, 300,000 Red Roses Forever mini roses 6 cm pot roses and 130,000 Roses Forever and Infinity roses were send out from our grower in Denmark, Rosa Aps," says Rosa. "Now we can relax a bit, before we start the delivery for Women's Day (8 March) and UK Mother's Day (March 6), which start up end of week 7," concludes Rosa.
