US: March is National Gerbera Month

Valentine’s Day is officially behind us. The birds are chirping, and the flowers are blooming, which means it must also be time for National Gerbera Month.

National Gerbera Month celebrates Gerbera Daisies all throughout March, and is dedicated to growing awareness, appreciation and popularity of Gerbera Daisies.

This traditional flower has recently re-gained popularity in the cut-flower market.

It’s sought after for its simple yet recognizable shape, vibrant colors, and varying size options; which pair easily with other popular spring flowers such as tulips, freesia and hydrangea. Gerbera Daises are the perfect flowers to promote spring and Freshness!

One of the purposes for National Gerbera Month is to help raise awareness of the five different kinds of Gerbera Daisies available in the flower market:

Standard – Choose from over 50 varieties in Natural or Tinted colors. All standard gerbera daisies feature thick, long stems; a plastic straw to prevent stems from bending; and a protective, perforated cup around the head of the flower.

Mini – Everything you love about the standard gerbera daisies, just a few centimeters smaller in diameter. Mini gerbera daisies are available in exciting & vibrant colors and are great for bouquets!

Piccolini – The “mini” mini gerbera daisy. As the smallest kind of the Gerbera Daisy, the Piccolini proves, “It’s not about the size, but how you use it!” Piccolini Gerbera Daisies features tiny gerbera daisy heads, also available in fabulous colors.

Pasta – The size is similar to standard Gerbera Daisies, featuring “ruffled” or “rolled” petals/edges. Add unique texture with a pop of color to your floral designs.

Gerrondo/Pomponi – Large, rounded Gerbera Daisies featuring an enormous quantity of flowers petals that will give your arrangements texture and depth.

Guatemalan Gerbera Daisies grower, Angelo Fratti, and co-owner of Verdifratti Farms believes Gerbera Daisies will continue to make an impact in the floral industry. With the continued development of new classes and varieties, Fratti believes, “Gerbera Daisies promote happiness and freshness, and people need more of that in their lives.”

Recently, celebrities musical Myley Cyrus & Cee-lo Green were both seen covered head to toe in Gerbera Daisies during individual television appearances on ‘Saturday Night Live’ and ‘X Factor’ in 2015.

Coldplay also performed during the Super Bowl Half-time show with a stage full of gerbera daisies and prints.
