US: Fostering orchids since 1975

You would never know that it is winter outside at Debra Foster’s Redlands home.

Inside her sunroom, it’s a veritable jungle. And it’s all because of her gorgeous collection of orchids.

Cultivating orchids isn’t as hard as one might think, but it does require some knowledge, innovation and patience to have success with some of the most evolved plants in the world.

Foster started growing orchids in 1975, and the first orchid she ever had in her collection was a cattleya given to her by a friend. She has dozens more now, and has loved not only the beauty of the plants that originally attracted her to the hobby, but also the science behind the plants and the challenge of growing more finicky varieties.
