NL: Big Data can improve market orientation

BIG Data shows a lot of promise for the business sector. On the basis of analyses of large amounts of data compiled from different sources, new ideas arise. This enables entrepreneurs to take the right steps for their company. Big Data can improve market orientation of entrepreneurs in the horticultural sector.





Research is done by the Free University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, into the use of social media by the consumer. The use of social media by consumers is growing. It is interesting to analyse what the consumer’s opinion is on ornamental products and how they respond on social media to marketing campaigns.

From this the Top 5 for each season of flowers & plants in 2015 has been constituted of the most discussed crops on Twitter (see illustration).

This research is done with a view to a four-year rolling programme of Big Data for the horticultural sector named BIG T&U of the Top sector horticulture.

Floricode is one of the participating organisations in this program and coordinates the activities of the participants for the ornamentals subsector.
