Singapore: Shangri-La Hotel launches orchid greenhouse

To celebrate her 45th anniversary, the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore has launched The Orchid, a seven-metre tall open-air orchid greenhouse sculpture nestled amidst the hotel’s 15-acre estate.

Also known as Singapore’s “second Botanical Gardens”, The Orchid was designed to enhance the gardens and to showcase the beauty of orchids – Singapore’s national flower - as they vary through the different seasons in the year. Over 600 orchids are on display per collection.

For the official opening collection “A Floral Art Piece”, 33 orchid varietals in six different colours have been selected.

Orchids for guests
The Orchid was designed as a complement to the pre-existing self-guided Orchid Walk which is already available to hotel guests. Available via a booklet, hotel guests follow a map to discover and learn about 25 different orchid varietals that grow within the hotel’s grounds. The Orchid Walk takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

An ongoing series of daily activities have also been planned for The Orchid; guests can join a sketch class, Orchid Tour or participate in a guided drone flight session capturing the overhead perspective of The Orchid – the footage is sent to guests thereafter as a memento of their stay. Guests can also reserve Dîner De Fleurs – a private dinner for two to six guests inside The Orchid with a themed menu by the hotel’s chefs.
