US (MI): Customers buy flower shares to support small farm

Among the fields of cosmos, daisies and lilies, Katie MacGregor finds her joy.

"It’s good solid work and I like the hard work. It’s relaxing. It suits me," she said.

She has grown flowers on her 5-acre property for about three years.

MacGregor sells these flowers to people who own Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) flower shares. She also delivers to a restaurant twice a week, she said.

The CSA flower shares work the same way as a vegetable or meat CSA share.

"I have three people who have purchased a CSA share," she said. "It starts at about the end of June and goes until Labor Day. Once a week I deliver either a $15 vase choice or $25 vase choice. I mainly deliver to the Petoskey area. You buy a share of my flowers and I bring them to you."
