Flowers and plants of the month October
Chinese Evergreen, Leucotheo, chrysanthemum and lisianthus
In October, the campaign “Houseplant of the month” draws attention to the Chinese Evergreen, which has strong air-purifying properties which have a positive effect on the living environment. The Chinese Evergreen originates in Southeast Asia and is suitable for people whose fingers aren’t particularly green because of its simplicity. The range of these foliage plants is constantly being expanded. Thus, the lively leaf markings vary from grey and green up to red/orange shades.
The Leucotheo has been chosen for “Garden plant of the month” in October. Particularly in autumn and winter, the multi-coloured leaves of the compact evergreen shrub come into their own. During the season the leaf colour changes from fresh green and purple via bronze to bright red.
The chrysanthemum will be in the spotlight during the weeks 39 to 42. The flower originates from the Asian region but came to Europe in the 17th century. The chrysanthemum, which derives from the Greek for “Golden flower”, stands for health and happiness.
From weeks 43 to 45 the Flower Agenda will focus on the lisianthus which originates in the desert riverbeds from the Wild West. The foundations of today’s range were laid by crossings made by Japanese growers in the 1930s.
