"Heliconias too sensitive for cold storage!"

Green is hip. It's the Pantone color of 2017, and almost every interior and design brand works with shapes and size of flowers and leaves. For Marcel Duijvesteijn of Preferred Supplier of FleuraMetz MDK Flowers & Greens, it confirms: "You gradually see that florists and arrangers dare to distinguish themselves."

Exclusive exotic plant
The range of variation in leaf and size is immense, with the heart-shaped anthurium leaf as outlier. In addition to the many types of decorative green, MDK is also a heliconia specialist. Marcel: "We deliver good quality thanks to employee Dirk Piet. He has 40 years of experience in heliconia cultivation. We mainly breed them in our nurseries in Ghana. The climatic conditions are perfect for this exclusive exotic plant."

The colorful flower with striking shape is unfamiliar to some new owners. "Florists do not always know how to handle heliconias properly. The flowers are extremely sensitive to cold, which causes discoloration quickly. One night in cold storage is definitely not recommended!" according to Marcel.

Quality in a different climate
In Ghana, they provide a socially responsible environment. Marcel: "Our employees receive education and healthcare. This way we give something back to Ghana." He wants to transfer the knowledge gained over there. "The climate is warm and humid, ideal conditions for both green and heliconias." Marcel advises: "Try to keep the flower moist by spraying it daily with water."

Distinctive
Purchaser Piet Ravensbergen agrees with him: "With these variations of cut green, each arrangement gets a completely different look." The grains, shapes and structures of the decorative greens are excellent for multiple purposes. Marcel hopes that florists will realize that too. "You can make your signature design with this green. Use it, just like the heliconia, in ways different than the average florist. Dare to create different bouquets, make a continuous, diversified range available to consumers."

Piet: "Decorative green and heliconia are not standard and do not come cheap. However, the constant quality and reliability of this supplier make it very worthwhile. You can make such cool things with it." Marcel: "We sometimes receive pictures of the final creations. I've seen the most beautiful things. And every time you notice: that's what makes the difference with a bunch of moderate flowers from the supermarket. People always come back for quality."
