Royal FloraHolland: ''All hands on deck for Mother's Day''

Royal FloraHolland will be adjusting its logistics processes from May 5 to 12 to ensure that enough trolleys will be available. In this period we shall also be imposing additional overnight hiring. Marcel explains how the marketplace will have all hands on deck for Mother's Day.

On the safe side
Marcel Claessen: "In the run-up to Mother's Day we are still experiencing worry about the number of available trolleys. Today we decided to be on the side of caution and impose two measures at all export locations from tomorrow until the end of next week: Ask buyers to release trolleys by imposing additional internal overnight hiring and adjust distribution processes.

Of course, we shall be monitoring daily whether we can minimise the process adjustments or even return to the standard situation. That could be possible from Wednesday. We shall communicate any deviations required."

Understanding
Royal FloraHolland has been receiving signals from buyers that trolleys which are released are not always returned to reuse. Marcel explained, "Buyers, everyone really, are working hard to release trolleys. Sometimes we do not have enough time to collect them, or our buffer areas are full. We ask for your understanding, and please keep releasing as many trolleys as you can."

Radical improvement
Marcel and his teams are already preparing for a radical improvement in the availability of trolleys after the spring season peaks. "As I explained in the newsflash of April 13, we were surprised by a break in the trend regarding the usefulness of trolleys in the different flows. Business is booming, which means more steps with a greater impact are required to address this shortage. We have already started getting ready for the coming peaks. Naturally, we are talking with our members and their buyers about how best to accomplish this."
