"Schlumbergera is a hard one to kill"

Hofland Flowering Plants not only invested in a brand new logo but have also updated their operational process. Annemiek Hofland: “My brother Frank and I are steadily taking over the management from our father Goos.” New developments have been made to suit the next generation. One of them are plastic pots that include useful tips for consumers.

Son Frank and daughter Annemiek will launch the company’s new website this summer following the new logo and the more pro-active business approach they have implemented. Annemiek: “It’s nice that we can rely on someone as experienced as Goos. He has worked in this company most of his professional life and knows the industry inside out. He’s also open to suggestions allowing us to be a reliable partner for both traditional as well as next generation florists and garden centres."

Brazilian roots
The care guide on the pots of the Schlumbergeras is one of their latest initiatives. It will let you get the best out of your flowering cacti. Frank: “This cactus is native to the Brazilian jungle and grows on cliffs and trees. It truly is a survival plant and therefore very low maintenance. It is ideal for a wide range of jobs.” Annemiek: “It’s such a stunning, flowering plant. The moment when all the buds start to open… it amazes me every single time.” There are times when a Schlumbergera looks as if it has passed its best yet it comes back to flower. Frank says with a wink: “It really is a hard one to kill.”

Efficient
FleuraMetz buyer Jeroen Vijverberg confirms the above. “The numerous buds make it a well-bodied plant. The amazing colour effect it has when they all turn into flower takes many people by surprise.” He is very pleased with the collaboration with this Preferred Supplier. “Goos, Annemiek and Frank are open-minded and very involved in how to improve our services to florists and wholesalers.” In spring, the range also includes Dianthus, Exacum, Kalanchoë and Hibiscus. Hofland Flowering Plants use biopesticides on their products where possible.

Exclusive
Frank: “Schlumbergeras are tricky products to cultivate. Thanks to our advanced knowledge and experience, we know how to deal with their intricate features. We have the in-house specialism and knowledge to grow a strong and reliable product. It’s not something one would require overnight.” Jeroen nods in agreement. “By combining our strengths, we create a win-win situation for the complete chain.”
