Israel: Danziger looks ahead at annual convention

Production sites managers, as well as planning, logistics, lab and other supporting departments’ management teams, gathered for a week to discuss and present major challenges, achievements and goals.

“As a global company, supplying from 4 different locations, we need to make sure our protocols and working methods can stand up to our strictest standards. This convention is part of the ongoing efforts we make in order to leverage our international accumulated knowledge into a top-of-the-line global production infrastructure”, says Gaby Danziger, CEO.

With a comprehensive overview discussion covering many topics; from radiation control and crop oriented fertilization to KPI’S such as service levels. “This year we saw another decline in complaints index, which is lower than 1% in total. This is a very good sign, indicating we are on the right track. Nonetheless, we will keep on doing our best to always keep improving”, says Danziger.

According to Nimrod Barnea, VP Production and Operations, these are the three most significant challenges the industry now deals with, when it comes to production:
  1. Pests and diseases- while keeping all plant material clean from pests and diseases has always been a main issue, new regulations and instructions regarding limitations of pest control chemicals are bringing new challenges. Europe is promoting more and more limitations, and that requires leading companies such as Danziger to be more agile with the production process, as well as adapting the right QA and QC, to ensure we maintain strict QA goals.
  2. Automatization – technologies are evolving in high speed, yet one can’t say that the industry has “found” it’s best one yet. Currently, different growers and rooting stations are trying different machines and technologies. How does this effect companies like Danziger? “At Danziger we want to spark the imagination, to lead the industry to reach new peaks. Technology is a part of that. We are working closely with our customers and partners, and take it on ourselves to be as agile as can be to support them in testing new technologies. When the right technology is there, we will be the first ones to support it”, says Gaby Danziger, CEO.
  3. Climate changes- our industry is very much influenced by the change in climate. Usually it is more associated with the growing part of the value chain that suffers major difficulties due to droughts for example. Yet, climate changes, causing a change in temperature and radiation levels, are effecting production even at the mother plants stage. “Based in Israel, and having the global spread, we leverage new and innovative ideas from other industries and start-ups, in order to find the best way to overcome these challenges, keeping our mother stocks as productive and at the highest quality as we guarantee”, says Barnea.
Next month, a similar convention will be held, to discuss Cut Flowers production and operations main challenges. “Though some challenges are similar, Cut flowers are different in certain aspects. We strive to be the best in the world, we need to turn every stone and make sure we use our creative teams to find the best solutions and be ready for the future”, says Barnea.
