"An innovative roof cannot do without an innovative floor”"

In a few weeks ErfGoed will start work at Ter Laak Orchids. ErfGoed supplying a new floor isn't big news in itself, but it is when one of the most innovative greenhouses in the Netherlands is concerned: the Daylight Greenhouse, a concept built by Technokas.

Socially responsible
A few years ago, the first 4,000 m2 Daylight Greenhouse was built at Ter Laak. As such, they were the first to have this unique greenhouse concept. When it came to the floor, ErfGoed was chosen.

The Daylight Greenhouse ensures that more natural light is used and that heat is harvested. This will save a maximum amount of energy and, according to Ter Laak, the plant quality will increase: "The results are good. We produce better plant and root quality, stronger crop and a faster transition to the next cultivation phase. Furthermore, we realize energy savings of about 50%."

Meanwhile, the company has chosen to build another Daylight Greenhouse. This time with a floor area of more than five hectares. Again, Ter Laak chose for a ErfGoed floor.

Innovative roof and innovative floor
"Of course, I understand that all the attention is mainly directed at all the innovations at the top of the greenhouse," says General Manager Hugo Paans of ErfGoed. "These are, after all, very visible and new. But that does not change the fact that the floor also plays a crucial role in saving energy, water and fertilizers, and in creating optimal cultivation and working conditions. In other words: An innovative roof cannot do without an innovative floor.”

"When I'm with customers and show how our cultivation floors are built and what benefits this brings, I realize again how innovative and future oriented our floors really are. And that it is always custom-made. For example, at Ter Laak we have included some concrete gutters in the design to easily catch and remove dirt and grease (from the bark)."
