The Mix Flowers project of the cooperative of ornamental plant producers, Corma, has been this year’s winner of the Professor Ballester-Olmos award presented by the Official College of Agricultural and Graduate Technical Engineers of Valencia and Castellon (COITAVC). The prize has been presented at the gala event “Noche + Verde”, organised in the framework of Iberflora 2017.
Mix Flowers proposes the combination of different plant species for urban gardens adapted to the conditions of each location. These flower mixes feature different types of plants: vivid shrubs, annual, aromatic, etc. The goal is to create gardens in which beauty prevails, but always with a focus on sustainability, the promotion of biodiversity and low maintenance costs.
"With our project, we seek to be sustainable and, at the same time, enhance our senses and emotions with chromatic, fragrant and welcoming gardens in which flowers play the main role," stated sources from the Catalan cooperative Corma, in charge of the project.
The Ballester-Olmos award is presented to companies from the sector for their innovation, development and application of new technologies aimed at improving production efficiency.
"Innovation and sustainability are two very necessary values in our sector and, as Agricultural Technical Engineers, we try to put that into practice on a daily basis. This has allowed Spain to become one of the leading countries in the field of ornamental plant production, and this award will help promote projects that are really worthwhile," affirms Regina Monsalve, president of COITAVC.
