Russia: Batches of infected Kenyan roses destroyed in Tyumen, Ekaterinburg

Last week, we published an article of sakhalin.info in which states that a batch of infected (western flower thrips) chrysanthemums were destroyed in the Eastern part of Russia. Next to chrysanthemums, also western thrips were found in Kenyan roses.

On news.megatyumen.ru an article says that a batch of 351 roses from Kenya have been destroyed in Tyumen. They caused suspicion with the specialists of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance. They have taken samples for the laboratory tests, the results of which confirmed presence of quarantine objects, western flower thrips. All infected produce had to be destroyed.

"It is worth mentioning that western flower thrips remains one of the most dangerous pests and a spreader of plant viruses. It presents a serious threat for flowers and agricultural products being a wide polyphage (polytrophic), affecting cotton plants, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, peaches, grapes and other kinds of fruit and vegetables", the article says.

Also Kenyan roses in Ekaterinburg have been destroyed (source: urbc.ru). The representatives of sanitary inspection working in the airport Koltsovo of Yekaterinburg have discovered quarantine pests in a batch of Kenyan roses, imported from Slovakia, reported press service of a respective regional department of Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance. 

The batch of 180 pieces was infected with western (Californian) thrips. The whole batch was destroyed in order to prevent the pest from spreading. 

In all within the quarantine phytosanitary control the specialists have checked 221,7 thousand roses that arrived from Slovakia.
