Turkey: Tourists show great interest in tulip fields in Konya

Tulips hold a special place in Turkish history as one period in the Ottoman era was named after the tulip and the tulip figure can be seen in numerous Ottoman artistic works.

Nowadays tulips have become an attraction point for tourists in Konya, a city located in the middle of Turkey. Thousands of local and international tourists travel to Konya to visit the tulip fields of Asya Lale, a company which grows 110 different varieties of tulips in its production fields. Foreign visitors come from various countries such as Japan, China, Indonesia and Macedonia.
The field, which was described as “rainbow on the land”, make up the background for many visitors’ photos. The tulips are grown in a field of 3.5 million square feet.

The owner of the company Ali Yetgin: “We were receiving more visitors every year. In the near future we will start exporting these tulips. A lot of visitors come to Konya to visit the museum of Mevlana and extend their trip to visit our fields. Also many photographers visit our fields to capture the best photos. It is not only contributing to our local economy through the sale of these tulips, it also contributes by bringing a lot of tourists to the area.”
