New Young Plants Division Manager, Assistant Grower for J. Berry Nursery

Continuing their mission of “Creating Beauty that Inspires,” J Berry Nursery welcomes Dr. Judson LeCompte to oversee the Young Plants Division. Judson earned his PhD from Mississippi State and his Master’s from Auburn University, researching tea Camellia production in the southern United States and green roof species irrigation practices respectively. He will work hand-in-hand with Jim Berry to oversee new plant research and development along with the trial gardens.

Judson says, “It is very exciting to join the dynamic team at J. Berry Nursery. Since it’s founding, J. Berry Nursery has been an influential player by offering some of the most innovative plants in the industry and it is an honor to be able to continue my career here. Because research and new product development are a priority, the sky is the limit and I’m so thrilled to be a part of it.”

Jonathan Scott arrives at J. Berry Nursery from Rockwell Farms. He serves as the new Assistant Grower, ensuring that every plant that leaves J. Berry Nursery will delight and inspire gardeners.

He’s excited to join the team. “I love the idea of creating something new. At one time I wanted to work with plant genes, and by working with J. Berry, I get to help with the end results of new plant genetics.” He says, “We work with many different breeders to bring the world new plants that everyone can enjoy.” Jonathan looks forward to his first full season, saying, “Our plants have just woken up from their winter nap and are quickly coming to size.” He’ll be waving goodbye to them as they head out to retailers everywhere over the next few weeks.

Co-owner and Founder Jim Berry is tickled to welcome both new hires, and the expansion of experience and perspectives they bring. “Our team is becoming quite diverse, with different ages, experiences, and backgrounds across the board. That helps us serve our customers better, because our customer base is also diverse, in geography, location, history, and interests. Because our end goal is to produce plants that delight our customers, adding Judson and Jonathan to our team helps us deliver on our promise.”
