Floridata: broader export increases demand for international market information

Top 30 Dutch export countries of floral produce

Floridata participants received access to the top 30 export countries for cut flowers and pot and garden plants after the month end of March. Benchmarking within the sector is possible, because in addition to the industry numbers, individual figures are also displayed in the portal.

In recent times Floridata has seen an increase in the number of export companies that are joining, which at the same time increases the international market share. Along with the additional growth in Eastern European destinations, the Middle East and Asia, the expansion of exports is being further stimulated. Members have therefore indicated that they wanted the list of export destinations to grow, something that Floridata was able to realize.

The top 21: Germany, United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden, Russia, Austria, Denmark, Czech Republic, United States, Spain, Norway, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine. These are followed by Latvia, Portugal, Slovenia, the United Arab Emirates, Estonia, Greece, Lithuania, China and Croatia.

Emerging markets
Due to the spreading of exports, Floridata is currently working on a research report that establishes the top 10 most emerging export countries for cut flowers and pot and garden plants. For this study, data will be used from the UN Comtrade database and Market Potential Index (MPI). Based on initial conclusions, the following groups of emerging countries were categorized:
  • Eastern European markets that are EU members or may become EU members in the future. Examples: Slovakia, Estonia, Bulgaria, Hungary and Ukraine.
  • Asian markets and the Middle East driven by strong economic growth.
Examples: India, China, Kazakhstan, Turkey and Hong Kong.

The market report is expected to be made available in July 2018 for Floridata members.
