Bert van Klink, Bioclimatic:

"Ionisation has been solution against Botrytis for 25 years"

"It can't really be called innovative after 25 years, but there are still a lot of companies that have no experience using air purification as a solution against the spread of Botrytis in cold rooms,” says Bert van Klink from Bioclimatic in Nieuw-Vennep. “That's a shame, because this technology has been available for years. It's used by dozens of plant and rose growers and breeders, and is extremely environmentally friendly."

Bioclimatic specializes in modern disinfection techniques, and the ionisation of the air is one of them.

Bert: "Due to the low energy consumption, lack of pesticides and low maintenance costs, the technology fits in perfectly with sustainable solutions. We are mainly active in the food sector and that is where bacterial and fungal control is high on the agenda. But ionisation can also provide much added value for growers. The units are made of stainless steel and suitable for low temperatures. The mold pressure in the air is already greatly reduced within 24 hours. This means that Botrytis can no longer spread and ensures a significant reduction in flower loss. It's simple but effective.

The system operates with a high voltage that generates ions which are then released into the air (and 'activate' the air). These ions are unstable and bind with pollution in the air. There are no filters in the equipment, so maintenance is only required once a year.
