'Schloss Moyland'

Pellens Hortensien christens own hydrangea variety

Schloss Moyland, a new hydrangea variety (Hydrangea macrophylla) will be named, which has been selected by Pellens Hortensien and will now be marketed all over Europe. "The special aspect of this variety is its fascinating play of colours while bursting into blossom," company owner Andreas Pellens describes the novelty. "Over dark blue fertile flowers stand lime green buds. These get sprinklings in strong pink or lilac bit by bit, before they change into a more even blossom colour with a light pink or dark blue middle. The variety has been tested in the company’s own trial garden. It showed an even growth and reliable flower setting," Pellens sais. "Schloss Moyland has meanwhile overcome three winters without problems in the garden and blossomed every year. For the marketing of the variety, picture labels and logo planters have been developed."

The name "Schloss Moyland" was lent by a castle situated only a few kilometers away from the Pellens company. Today, it is a renowned museum of modern art. Additionally, it owns an award-winning park with trees, a herb garden, and most recently a large hydrangea collection, at whose implementation Pellens Hortensien is involved. "A museum for modern art, a hydrangea with an exceptional colour range – the combination of these two elements suggested itself. That’s why the new variety will get the name "Schloss Moyland“ and the supplement 'The Queen of Hydrangeas,'" Andreas Pellens explains.

The new breed will be introduced to the public with an official christening. On 21 and 22 July 2018 the new hydrangea collection at the museum "Schloss Moyland“ will be opened with a big hydrangea weekend. About 2000 hydrangeas and more than 450 varieties have been planted there. The program of the weekend includes lectures with the in Germany renowned TV journalist Elmar Mai, guided tours through the park, a market with the opportunity to buy hydrangeas ("Schloss Moyland“ included, of course) and children’s activities. In this context, the new variety "Schloss Moyland“ will be christened officially, as well.

The variety is subject to variety protection rights.
