New technology adds more oxygen to irrigation water

In greenhouse horticulture, oxygen is crucial for a healthy root environment. For this reason, the Norwegian company Nitox developed a system for adding more oxygen to irrigation water.

Nitox is a recently established company that develops systems for producing stable super-oxygenated water with an oxygen content of up to 160 mg/l. Aside from being used in horticulture, the company expects that this special water will be used for sports drinks that boast an accelerated recovery capacity, along with various medical applications.

Exploratory studies in Norway clearly show that this super-oxygenated water produced by Nitox has a positive influence on both crop development and germination. In a Horizon 2020 phase 2 SME project, with a budget of 2.5 million euros, this sustainable technology will be validated in the next two years. Then follows the market introduction.

At the World Horti Center on November 19 from 2-5 pm, there Dutch companies could get acquainted with Nitox and to explore possible collaborations. Nitox gave a short presentation of the technology and there is room for discussion.
